Full-Time Academy Staff
Making up the full-time Academy staff compliment are Louise McLean in the role of Academy Administrator and Katy Lamont as Player Liaison Officer who looks after the education and welfare arrangements for the Academy.
Greg Statt is a full-time coach at Football in the Community who spends two days a week full-time in the Academy in the role of Academy Scouting Co-ordinator.
Part-time Academy Staff
Many of the Academy functions are delivered by highly qualified and experienced part-time staff.
U13 to U17 Coaching Staff
All of the Academy coaches working with the 13s to 17s age groups are SFA Youth Licence holders, the highest possible qualification available for working with youth players, the staff at these age groups are as follows:
Included within the part-time Academy coaches on this list are Alan Boyd and Gary Gibson, both former professional players, who have been employed as full-time coaches in the club’s Football in the Community department for 10 years.
Both Alan and Gary are SFA Youth Licence Holders. In addition to his role coaching the U17 team Alan Boyd is also Head of Intermediate Academy and has additional responsibility for both the 13s to 15s age groups.
Andy Kirk is a former professional player with Hearts and Dunfermline who has 12 caps for Northern Ireland. Andy is an A Licence and Youth Licence holder. Gardener Spiers has managed Clyde, Ross County and Queens Park and had a spell as Assistant Manager at Aberdeen. The former St. Mirren player also coached Scotland youth international teams and is an SFA Licence course tutor who holds the UEFA Pro Licence.
Malcolm Thomson is a former Aberdeen player who has the Youth Licence and UEFA Pro Licence. He has a varied coaching career as full-time youth coach at Hibs, Celtic, Rangers and Birmingham and Assistant Manager at Inverness CT, Dundee Utd and Blackpool to name but a few. Steven Mundell is a Glasgow University Graduate with a Sports Science background who is in possession of the SFA Youth Licence and Advanced Childrens Licence.
Ally Dawson is a former Rangers captain having played more than 200 games at the club. After finishing his playing career Ally had spells as the Manager at Hamilton Accies and coaching roles at Ayr Utd and Stranraer. Ally has been inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame. Ally has the SFA A Licence and Youth Licence.
U8 to U12 Coaching Staff
All of the Academy coaches working with the 11s and 12s Club Academy Scotland teams hold the SFA Advanced Childrens Licence, the highest qualification available for working with children. The young age groups are co-ordinated by Jim McNee, our Head of Childrens Programme. The coaches at these age groups are as follows:

First team GK coach Jim Stewart, the Scotland national GK coach, oversees the goalkeeping provision and indeed also coaches within the Academy. Jim works closely with Peter Dennison the former Dumbarton GK and Fraser Stewart who works with the younger Academy age groups. Jim, Peter and Fraser all hold the SFA GK Licence, the highest possible qualification for working with Goalkeepers.
Rangers have an extensive Academy scouting team covering all parts of the UK. The current scouting team includes:
Joe Begg, Jimmy Brown, Scott Bryson, Ronnie Lowrie, Eddie McCulloch, John McPherson, Charlie Palmer, David Roseburgh, Alan Upton, Alan Wardlaw, Brian Thomson, George Weir, Stewart Brown, Phil Cowen, Dean Montgomery, Colin Ritchie, Peter McLean, Ian Wilson, Garry Robertson and Ian Murdoch.
Full-time physios Steve Walker and Kevin MacLellan work, in addition to their duties with the 1st team, with the Academy players. Billy Henderson is another full-time physio who is dedicated to the Academy.
The full-time staff manage a team of part-time physios who support the work of Steve, Kevin and Billy. The Academy medical department is completed by Dr Paul Jackson who works with Academy and first team players and is assisted in his Academy work by Dr Ian Brown.
Head Sports Scientist Jamie Ramsden and Assistant Sports Scientist Luke Lawrence are supported by a team of highly qualified part-time staff who include Mark Jones (Strength & Conditioning), Garry Sherriff (Strength, Conditioning & Analysis), and Richard Chessor (Diet & Nutrition).
The Academy kit is looked after by Graham Smillie and Martin Bell.
