Player Profile

RANGERS confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Jak Alnwick from Port Vale on a three and a half year deal in January 2017.

The 23-year-old joined the club until 2020 for an undisclosed fee from the English League One side.

Alnwick has made 67 appearances for the Valiants where he moved in August 2015. The 6’2 stopper started his career at Sunderland before moving to local rivals Newcastle United to continue his development.

It was under Alan Pardew that Alnwick made his first-team debut for the Magpies as a substitute for the injured Rob Elliot in a 2-1 win over Chelsea at St James Park. He impressed and was handed his full debut a week later against Arsenal.

With both Newcastle’s first-team keepers fit again, Alnwick was loaned out to Bradford City but made just one appearance for the Yorkshire club before making a permanent move to Port Vale.

Alnwick was capped by England at under-17 and under-18 level and was named in the squad for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia as back-up to Jack Butland and Lee Nicholls.

His brother is current Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, who has also played for Sunderland and England Under 21s. The pair played against each other in a 1–1 draw between Port Vale and Peterborough United in October 2015.
