RANGERS Women beat Queen’s Park 3-0 this evening in their opening group game of the SWPL Cup.
Megan Bell opened the scoring from the penalty spot after just one minute, before Brogan Hay and Daina Bourma added to the tally late in the game.
Gregory Vignal and Malky Thomson made three changes to the side which beat Hearts on Sunday as Megan Cunningham replaced Jenna Fife in goal with Nicola Docherty and Sonia O’Neill also making the starting eleven. Daina Bourma and Chelsea Cornet dropped out of the team and were named on the bench.
Rangers were ahead inside the first minute after the Gers were awarded a penalty as Brogan Hay was taken down inside the box after only 55 seconds played.
Megan Bell stepped up to the spot and made no mistake in sending the keeper the wrong way to give the Gers the early advantage.
Annika Meuskens produced a good save on the 20th minute to deny Rangers a second as Sonia O’Neill found the run of Bala Devi but the strikers’ shot was blocked well.
The Light Blues continued to pressure as Brogan Hay cut the ball back to Sonia O’Neill in space in the box, but her effort was wide of the target.
Demi Vance tried an effort from a free-kick just before the hour mark as she curled a left-footed strike just over the bar, while Megan Bell and captain Clare Gemmell both saw chances go just wide.
Bell came close again shortly after as she got her head on the end of a cross from Nicola Docherty but it was just wide of the Queen’s Park goal.
Rangers did get their second goal on the 83rd minute as Nicola Docherty’s cross was met by Brogan Hay with the Gers winger skipping beyond a Queen’s Park player to drill a low effort into the bottom of the net.
In the final minute of the game substitute Daina Bourma added a third with a fantastic strike as she fired a Nicola Docherty cross high into the back of the net.
