THERE was disappointment for Rangers as they missed out on a place in the League Cup Final after losing 4-1 to Hibernian to Ainslie Park yesterday afternoon.
Chantelle Brown got the only goal of the game for Rangers while Lizzie Arnot and Sarah Ewans got a goal each and Abi Harrison getting a double for Hibernian.
Harrison opened the scoring for Hibs when she rifled a shot into the top corner of Claire Johnstone’s goal 15 minutes into the start of the game.
There were very few other chances to speak of in the first half. There was a shout for penalty for Rangers when Katey Turner was bundled over in the box just after the 35-minute mark but the referee waved away any protests that the forward was fouled, but chances for the Gers were limited.
Hibs created a bit more with captain Lisa Roberson heading wide and Sarah Ewans hitting a shot over the bar before half time, but very little, except the goal, separated the teams going into half time.
However after the restart Hibs doubled their lead 5 minutes into the second half after Harrison’s cross evaded Johnstone and sneaked its way into the Rangers goal. Hibs added a third on 66 minutes when Lizzie Arnot got on the end of a low cross at the back post to make it 3-0 to Hibs
There was a glimmer of hope for the Gers as Chantelle Brown chipped the Hibs goalie Fife, adding to her fine form this season, getting a goal and reducing the deficit with 15 minutes to go. However with 3 minutes until full time Ewans got a fourth for Hibernian securing their place in the final of the league cup and ending the Gers cup run at Ainslie Park
The Gers are back in league action next Sunday against other semi-finalists Glasgow City at New Tinto Park.
