CHELSEA Cornet believes the 2020 season is looking to be a promising one for Rangers after she became the sixth new signing of the close season.

The 21-year-old says she can’t wait for the new campaign to begin with the new-look Light Blues squad.

Speaking to RangersTV after signing an 18-month contract, she said: “I am really excited to get started, obviously Rangers is a massive club with great ambition and I am looking forward to being part of that.

“For them to be putting investment in to develop the women’s side is massive and it is so exciting to be part of and I can’t wait for the league to start and it is looking really promising for us in the 2020 season.

“They are making massive changes at the club and all of them changes are really positive which is only going to develop me as a player and benefit the team as well.”

Cornet has played at Hibs since under-13 level, working her way through the Academy ranks and into the first-team.

She continued: “I have been at Hibs for a long time but I think for me it was a case of I wanted a new challenge and when Rangers came in I was delighted and it was an opportunity that I couldn’t let slip.

“I am hoping to encourage others with my experience and things like that so I am really looking forward to aiding others as well as myself.

“I am quite a determined player, I’ve got a really strong winning mentality, I like to win, I like to be energetic on the pitch so I’m hoping to bring that to the team and show everyone that that is the type of player that I am.”

The midfielder knows a number of the Gers new signings including Kirsten Reilly and Jenna Fife, from her time at Hibs and on Scotland duty.

She said: “I am really looking forward to getting back with them, it has been a while since we have all been together. It has been good that I have had them that I know as well and I can’t wait to get started.

“We want to be playing to the best of our ability and that is winning leagues, playing in finals, Champions League, we want to be at the highest level.

“We are all in the same boat so it is so exciting to develop from step one and through to the start of the season.

“I think anything is achievable it has always been a sort of three horse race for the league but I think we can really challenge for that now and pushing for Champions League is really our aim.”
