ON THIS DAY in 2003 Rangers defeated Celtic 2-1 to lift the League Cup following a nervy final at Hampden.
Claudio Caniggia (above) had Alex McLeish’s men ahead before Peter Lovenkrands made it 2-0 before half time.
Celtic rallied after the interval, and Henrik Larsson pulled a goal back before John Hartson missed a penalty in the closing minutes as somehow the Gers held on.
It was the first leg of a fantastic treble lifted by McLeish’s side that year in one of the most remarkable and dramatic campaigns in the club’s history.
