ON THIS DAY in 1981, Davie Cooper turned in one of the most magnificent individual performances ever seen in a Rangers shirt as the Light Blues defeated Dundee United 4-1 in the Scottish Cup Final replay.

Cooper opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, chipping the ball over Hamish McAlpine in the United goal before Bobby Russell made it 2-0 ten minutes later.

United hit back through Davie Dodds but John Greig’s side took a 3-1 lead into the break as John MacDonald latched onto the end of an outstanding Cooper through-ball.

MacDonald added another with 12 minutes left on the clock to ensure the cup was going back to Ibrox and denied United a Cup double.
