ON THIS DAY in 1996, Rangers turned in arguably the greatest Scottish Cup Final performance of all time to demolish Heart of Midlothian 5-1 at Hampden Park.

The Jambos went into the game in confident fashion having beaten Walter Smith’s side 3-0 in a shock Ibrox victory earlier in the season, but they were blown away by a magnificent Light Blues’ performance with Gordon Durie netting a hat-trick.

Despite that, he wasn’t quite the star of the show with Brian Laudrup scoring two of his own and setting up all three of Durie’s goals.

Indeed to this day, the game is still referred to as the ‘Laudrup Final’.
