RANGERS ended their SWPL season with a 1-0 victory away to Spartans this afternoon.

It was the final game of the season for Gregory Vignal’s side as Ellis Dalgliesh’s goal saw the Gers leave Edinburgh with all three points in a tight game at Ainslie Park.

Spartans started well with a run forward by Sarah Clelland resulting in a shot was saved by Khym Ramsay in the Rangers goal.

The hosts had another chance a few minutes later as Caley Gibb’s cross was headed just wide by Rebecca Galbraith but the linesman’s flag was up for offside.

Galbraith had another chance at goal on the 17th minute as she turned well in the box to get a shot away but it was saved by Khym Ramsay.

Spartans continued to threaten as another good run by Sarah Clelland saw her find Kaela McDonald who put a dangerous cross across the face of goal but luckily for the Gers there was no one on hand to tap it home for Spartans.

Rangers had a chance with 10 minutes remaining as a long ball forward found the run of Hannah Robertson but her shot was wide of the target.

Robertson had another chance shorty after as Lauren Gallon found her in space at the edge of the box. The forward took a touch before getting a shot away but it bounced just wide.

Rangers boss Gregory Vignal made a double change to his side at half-time with Holly Napier and Emma Brownlie being replaced by Jade Gallon and Shelley Campbell.

Early in the second-half Rosie Mcquillan had a good chance for Rangers as Jade Gallon played in to her in space in the box. Mcquillan turned well before getting a shot away but it was just wide of the target.

The positive start paid-off for the Gers on the 54th minute as Brogan Hay made ground down the right wing before delivering a cross into the box which was turned into the back of the net by Ellis Dalgliesh to give Rangers the lead.

Khym Ramsay was called into action shortly after as Spartans looked for a response. Kaela McDonald’s effort from distance was tipped over the bar by the Rangers number one.

At the other end, Rosie Mcquillian forced a good save from the Spartans goalkeeper as her shot was turned behind for a corner.

Ellis Dalgliesh came close to adding a second on the 73rd minute as she went on a great run to keep the ball in at the by-line but her shot from a tight angle hit the side netting.

Spartans goalkeeper Rachel Harrison produced a superb save in the last 10 minutes as Jade Gallon fired a powerful strike towards goal but Harrison got a hand to the shot to turn it behind for a corner.

The home side threatened to equalise with a couple of minutes remaining but Khym Ramsay had another superb save to deny Spartans a goal blocking a shot with her feet.
