RANGERS under-18’s won their fourth league game in a row this evening as they defeated Hearts 2-0.
Goals in either half from Ross McCausland and Alex Lowry saw the young Gers win at the Hummel Training Centre.
Rangers had a chance from a set piece after just 10 minutes as Matt Yates swung a ball into the box aiming for the run of Kyle McClelland at the back post but the ball was turned behind for a corner.
On the 22nd minute Aaron Lyall done well down the right before finding Adam Devine on the overlap, the right-back swung a cross into the box which met Ross McCausland but he couldn’t keep his effort down as it drifted over the target.
Hearts came close from a set piece of their own just after the half-hour mark as a short corner resulted in a cross being swung into the box meeting the head of their number 7 who diverted it just over the bar.
Umaro Balde and Adam Devine linked-up well shorty after as the young Gers looked for an opener as Devine then played in Matt Yates but his shot was blocked by a Hearts defender.
Rangers got the break-through just before half-time as Aaron Lyall’s cross was cleared by Hearts but only as far Ross McCausland who drilled a low shot across goal and into the back of the net.
Matt Yates had an effort for Rangers early in the second half as he saw his right-footed free-kick go just wide of the target, before Ross McCausland had a shot saved by the visiting goalkeeper.
Rangers made a double change on the 56th minute as McCausland and Yates were replaced by Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Chris McKee.
McKee had his first chance at goal just a minute after coming on as he got on the end of a Matthew Henderson cross but his effort was just over.
The striker was denied on the 77th minute as he again got his head to a cross but it was pushed away by the Hearts goalkeeper.
The second goal did come just a minute later as McKee had the ball in the box and set up Alex Lowry who curled a shot into the back of the net.
With five minutes to go Rangers almost had a third as Kane Ritchie-Hosler made ground into the box but his shot was saved by the feet of the keeper before Alex Lowry’s rebound was denied.
In added time, Kane Ritchie-Hosler done well to break into the Hearts half and cross to Chris McKee who touched his shot just wide from close range.
