RANGERS Women travelled to Liverpool this afternoon to take on the FA Women’s Super League side in a friendly match.

It was a tough test for Gregory Vignal’s side as they lost 8-1 to Liverpool Women at Prenton Park.

The hosts took an early lead on the second minute as Jade Bailey played in Rinsola Babajide who slotted low past Khym Ramsay.

Rangers had an opportunity from a set piece after good work from Jade Gallon saw her fouled on the edge of the area. Chelsie Watson drilled an effort towards goal but it was saved by Fran Kitching.

Liverpool came close to adding a second as the ball was given away in a dangerous area and picked up by Ashley Hodson but she drove her effort wide of the Rangers goal.

The English FA Women’s Super League side doubled their lead on the 12th minute as Courtney Sweetman-Kirk found space on the right before delivering a dangerous cross across the face of goal which was turned into the back of the net by Rinsola Babajide.

On the 18th minute Rangers were forced into a substitution as goalkeeper Khym Ramsay picked up an injury and had to be replaced. With no sub goalkeeper on the bench, Ellis Dalgliesh took up position between the sticks. Lauren Gallon came off the bench to slot in at right-back.

There was a third for Liverpool on the 21st minute as Rinsola Babajide linked up with Courtney Sweetman-Kirk who scored past Dalgliesh.

The Liverpool number nine was denied a second of the game shorty after as Dalgliesh done well to stop an effort from close range.

On the 28th minute Liverpool sub goalkeeper Anke Preuss took to the field in Rangers’ goal as Dalgliesh went to left-back and Lauren Gallon was subbed.

Liverpool added a fourth shorty after as Courtney-Sweetman Kirk headed home a cross.

Rangers had a goal back on the 33rd minute as captain Clare Gemmell played in Hannah Robertson who done well to find space and get her shot away from inside the box to beat the keeper.

Sweetman-Kirk almost had her hat-trick before the break as she was through one-on-one but Preuss done well to block her effort.

Gregory Vignal made three changes at half-time with Terri Donnelly, Jade Gallon and Gill Inglis replaced by Laura McCartney, Jayne Cameron and Shelley Campbell.

There was a change in goal as well at the break as the two Liverpool keepers Fran Kitching and Anke Preuss switched with Kitching taking up position in the Rangers goal.

Liverpool had a fifth on the 54th minute as Kirsty Linnett beat Fran Kitching.

There was a sixth for the home side 10 minutes later as Linnett saw her shot well blocked by Fran Kitching but the rebound fell to Rinsola Babajide who fired into the back of the net.

Liverpool were awarded a penalty on the 71st minute which Courtney Sweetman-Kirk stepped up to take. Her attempt was blocked by Kitching but she made no mistake in scoring from the round.

The hosts got their eighth as Babajide got her fourth of the afternoon with a long range strike curled into the top corner with three minutes of the match remaining.
