JOSH WINDASS rounded off an excellent week with a new contract, three points and a second career hat trick.
The English striker bagged three goals in today’s win over Hamilton Accies and feels he is getting the benefit from playing in the position he joined the club playing.
Speaking to RangersTV after today’s match at the Superseal Stadium, he said: “It’s obviously been a good week, getting rewarded with a new contract and to come and get three goals today was a bonus.
“I’m playing in the position now that the club signed me from initially.
“It was disappointing to not have been playing in that for a long time, but I’m there now and I’m happy and getting good service from the lads.”
Despite scoring a hat-trick today, Windass was quick to pay tribute to the other attackers in the side for their contribution to his goals.
“I’m enjoying it and it definitely helps when you are getting balls like the one from Alfredo Morelos and Jamie Murphy’s set up in the first half.
“They were great passes and they made them easy finishes. We have a lot of pace, with me Daniel, Jamie and Alfredo, which means we can always hurt teams even when we are not maybe having the greatest of games.
“We still have that pace and when we are on our game we are a really good front four.”
In a remarkable first forty-five minutes in Hamilton, the Gers bagged four goals, with Accies opening the scoring within five minutes, then grabbing their second through David Templeton.
Despite the Light Blues going in to the break with the lead, Windass said the team need to perform better, especially with next weekend against Craig Levein’s Jambos in mind.
He continued: “It was disappointing to be honest. We gave away sloppy goals and I think that if we were playing against a better team in the first half we might have been beaten.
“We need to improve on that now because we are taking on a Hearts team next week who are really resolute, and we have to play better than we did today to get that three points.”
Windass has now grabbed fifteen goals this season and is one off top scorer Alfredo Morelos, including nine in his last five games.
When asked which of his hat-trick was his favourite from today, he paid tribute to the work of Jamie Murphy.
He said: “The second goal I scored was my favourite because of the pass from Jamie Murphy.
“I didn’t think that he’d actually seen me, so I just ran into the box and it was an unbelievable little pass and an easy finish.”
The Light Blues moved up in to second place with the win today, ahead of Aberdeen on goal difference, a position the Gers have held before this season.
However, Windass explained that the team now need to consolidate that position. He said: “That’s the aim, we’ve done it a couple of times and not been able to sustain it, so hopefully we can do that and sustain it now.
