WES FODERINGHAM has been pleased by the progress the squad have made through their League preparations and says that Burnley will be a great test this weekend.
Foderingham has kept clean sheets in the three games he has played this season, during the first half against Charleston Battery, then against Motherwell and Stranraer in the League Cup.
The Gers number one said that the Light Blues were happy with his clean sheets thus far, but that the squad are expecting a tougher tie this weekend when Sean Dyche’s Burnley make the trip to Ibrox.
“We always expected to win the four games and we’ve done that. To keep four clean sheets is brilliant, as well.
“Burnley will be a step up in class but we feel we are ready for it now.
“We’ve had a few weeks of pre-season under our belts — it’s probably time to step things up and the Burnley game will be a good test.
“It always takes a while until you get to your optimum level. I know these games are competitive but, with all due respect to the standard, until you get into the actual league campaign it can take a while.”
The Light Blues began pre-season training in the middle of June, before heading to Charleston for a ten day training camp and match. The Gers have now won four games in a row in the League Cup, the latest of which being a 3-0 win over Stranraer at Ibrox.
Foderingham continued: “We’ve done everything right so far. We had a great 10 days in America, so we’ re ready and are hoping to go into the campaign with a winning start and the right mentality.
“From the team’s point of view, the first 45 minutes were probably the best we’ve played in a long time. Those nights are always difficult for goalkeepers. It was always going to be one of those type of games.
“It’s all about keeping your concentration. I’m looking forward to the new season — it’s a step up in class and another challenge for us. It’s one we are looking forward to and we feel we can compete.”
