STEVEN GERRARD agreeing a new deal is sign of the shared belief Rangers are moving in the right direction – according to Sporting Director Ross Wilson.
Wilson, who has now been in his new role for almost two months having arrived from Southampton, is thrilled with Gerrard’s commitment to the club, and also the work he is continuing to do on the pitch with his side.
Speaking to RangersTV, Wilson explained: “Steven is doing a wonderful job here, and signing that new contract was important to us and important to him as well as we all believe we are on the right tracks here and we all believe the direction of travel is really, really strong.
“Everybody is enjoying working with each other and everybody was keen to move that relationship forward from Steven to the staff to ourselves as a club, and we were delighted to get that done.
“There was no time pressure on that at all, and as Steven said, it was something that happened really, really fast in-between an incredibly crazy schedule of games and it was something we did really, really simply between Steven and ourselves.
“The first-team is in a really, really strong place at the moment. Steven and the staff are doing a really, really strong job as we have said in recent weeks on the back of Steven’s new contract and the staff committing their futures to the club as well.
“I think it is an exciting time for the club and I think the team on the pitch are playing exceptionally well at this moment in time, and I think it is a real, positive time for us.”
Wilson has thoroughly enjoyed his time at the club to date, adding: “I’m settling-in very well and it’s been so-far, so good. At the start of any new role, the key, for me, is to make sure I am connected really strongly to all our people here.
“We have a lot of good people here, and first and foremost, I have been made to feel very welcome and feel like we have made a lot of progress in a lot of areas that we want to progress in.
“So it has been a strong couple of months and it always helps with the team doing well on the pitch.”
