MARK WARBURTON is pleased with the fitness of his squad as he prepares for the final preseason test against Burnley tomorrow.
Gers boss Warburton has used the new look League Cup campaign and the training camp and game in Charleston to prepare for the start of the League campaign next week against Hamilton.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s match, he said: “Our fitness is good, we don’t want to hurry things unnecessarily, but our fitness is good and we are looking forward to the test at the weekend.
“Hopefully we get a busy Ibrox for what will be a good test, but then we have a full week of training ahead and we will use that to go into the Hamilton game when the season starts.
“Everything is focussed on that and we are in good shape. So far so good, but a lot of work still to be done.”
Following the match against Sean Dyche’s Clarets, the Light Blues have a week to prepare before the first League game of the season against Hamilton, something that Warburton says is vitally important.
He said: “It’s really important for us to have that full seven days. Our training programme will be that the players will have the Sunday off and the Wednesday off.
“We’ll do recovery on the Monday, then work very hard on the Tuesday, slightly less hard on the Thursday and build into the game.
“We’re looking forward to it and touch wood the squad is in good shape. We have one or two small knocks, Jason Holt and Josh Windass will both be back.”
