MARTYN Waghorn is hoping his first Player of the Month trophy is the start of a raft of awards.

Despite being nominated for the accolade in England in the past, he has never picked up the gong but his eight goals in September meant he got his hands on one at last.

The striker has netted 14 in 14 and is set to smash his original season target of 20 goals before he’s even reached the halfway mark.

The 25-year-old said: “It means a lot to get acknowledged by the league for the success I am having personally and it is great for the team and the gaffer. It’s my first award and hopefully there are many more to come.

“Anyone in our team could have won it, we are a great set of lads so if we can continue winning these then brilliant and hopefully we can get a clean sweep through the season.

“It’s going to be a tough ask but it’s down to us and how we play and how much effort we put in.

“I didn’t really think too much about these awards when I first came here but it’s nice to get and some more would be nice.

“The way we play football helps me; we are very attack minded, we are young, we are hungry and we have the same ambitions and goals for this season.

“Everything has just clicked for me this season – getting a run of games was just massive for me, that was crucial. I always said if I got games I would score goals and thankfully that’s happening.

“Like most strikers I thrive on playing games and wit the attacking threat that we’ve got I’m going to get chances and it’s just down to me to put them in the net.

“To come here and be stable after two or three years injured and struggling is just great.”

Rangers 3-1 win over Falkirk marked their ninth win in a row in the Championship.

Apart from the Light Blues only Bayern Munich and Olympiakos still remain unbeaten in Europe in the league and it’s something the Gers stars are keen to continue.

Waghorn said:  “My main goal here is to get the club promoted, we have won nine from nine and got through the first round of fixtures unscathed and we’ll keep kicking on.

“All the boys just want is promotion and we can crack on next year and have a good go. Winning drives us on to win more and we all have targets and goals.

“Anyone could catch us but we’re not going to let them! If we keep winning every game then they can’t get near us.

“It’s a long season and it’s up to us to take it one game at a time but we know how tough it can be.”
