KEVIN THOMSON is the latest former Gers player to be confirmed for the Legends Return match and he’s excited to play at Ibrox again.

Thomson is much loved by the Light Blues faithful and he will be joining fellow former Gers players such as Michael Mols, Jorg Albertz, Lorenzo Amoruso and many more on March 24th for Rangers Charity Foundation and the Rangers Youth Development Company.

Speaking to preview the match at the end of the month, Thomson explained that it’ll be hard for his combative nature on the pitch to sneak out even if it’s only a friendly match, “It’s hard to not be competitive,” Thomson said.

“When I’ve played in these charity matches before in the past they’ve always been played in good fettle. I’ve got respect for the players that’ll be playing so I’ll certainly not be running around to try and kick anyone – but I’ll certainly not pull out of a tackle! I’m excited.

“I’ve not had my boots on for about 18 months now, apart from the odd charity match. The fact it’s at Ibrox and to be back involved at the club is pretty special for me. I’m really looking forward to it.”

“The reason I stopped playing was because of my body and not so much my age, unfortunately the injuries took their toll and I’m not quite as fit as I used to be.

“When I was told there would be a big crowd expected I thought to myself ‘I better get back in the gym and try and get myself fit’.”

Thomson was announced as the latest former Gers player to join the coaching staff at the Rangers Academy in January working with the Intermediate Academy players, between under-13 and under-15s.

He continued: “Since I’ve started the academy and since I’ve been back at the club, and the time I’ve spent at the club, I’ve always been treated really really well.

“Every time I walk through Auchenhowie and go upstairs to the canteen and get treated as well as I do off the dinner ladies that were there when I was a first-team player – it makes it a special club.”

The Rangers Charity Foundation and the Rangers Youth Development Company will share the proceeds from the game.

The Rangers Youth Development Company profits are directed to the Clubs’ Youth Department to provide the support for the many exciting youth initiatives being introduced by our Academy, while the donation to the Foundation will help it continue to be a force for good on behalf of the Rangers Family supporting a range of charities and life changing programmes in the community.
