FOR Marvin Andrews, it’s “always a pleasure” playing at Ibrox – and he can’t wait to do so again in next Saturday’s legends match!
Rangers will host Liverpool in a glamour match, with a host of familiar faces and top talents set to turn out for the game, which is set for a 3pm kick-off.
Andrews, who became a cult hero among the Gers support for his efforts between 2004 and 2006, is always welcomed back to Ibrox whatever the occasion, and it will be extra special for him next week running down the tunnel against the red men of Anfield.
“It’s always a pleasure to run back out at Ibrox as a player,” he explained. “I have been retired for so many years now, but hopefully this game is a sell-out or a good number of fans there to support the match.
“Liverpool is a big club, and their ex-players play a lot of games together, going to a lot of different places for these matches.
“Their squad should be good and they’ll have some top players who have played the game at the highest level, though they’ll, of course, be a little bit older now!
“They still have the football brain though and I imagine they will have a good level of performance and fitness about them as they play together a lot.”
Andrews himself is a regular fixture in legends matches across the globe, and that, plus the fact he plays regular games back here in Scotland with pals, has him believing he’ll be in tip-top shape come next weekend.
“I am fit enough,” he continued, “and I think I might be a bit younger than some of the boys! I think some of them are a little bit older or around the same age, but I am definitely fit enough.
“I play a lot of matches and five-a-sides with my mates just to keep my general fitness up.
“So all is good and I am looking forward to it, it should be a good, fun day.”
Andrews is also looking forward to seeing many of his former teammates once again, adding: “That’s always great too. Every ex-professional footballer will tell you that one of the biggest things they miss from being a player is the dressing room banter.
“Apart from playing, meeting up with the boys again and going over old memories of when we used to play together and all the stories is great.”
