GARY MCALLISTER was so impressed with Ross McCrorie’s performance against Celtic at Ibrox and he feels the 20-year-old will only get better.
McCrorie was energetic and tenacious in the holding midfield role as the Light Blues ended 2018 in the best possible way with a memorable 1-0 Old Firm victory.
McAllister enjoyed the overall performance from the team on December 29 and being a former midfielder himself he was more than happy to discuss the industrious display McCrorie put in alongside goalscorer Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield in an exclusive interview with RangersTV in Tenerife.
The Gers assistant manager said: “”The facts are that any moment a Celtic player thought he had time to get his head up and hit a pass, and they have many players who have got ability to hit that killer pass, they never got it and that was purely down to Ross.
“He simply didn’t let the Celtic players breathe and in the previous games to the Celtic game I thought he was outstanding in them as well.
“He’ll get better in possession of the football and that’s something he’s very keen on working hard at.
You have got to remember he is still ever is so young and he’s played quite a few games now, but there is still much more to come from Ross.
“I would have to say one to eleven we were outstanding [against Celtic] but my eye is always drawn to the middle of the park because that’s where I played and I thought we got the mix absolutely spot on in there.
“I thought we were combative and we were physical, but our combination in some of our play was excellent.
“We helped the backline but Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack also got forward and helped the frontline as well.
“I just thought we got the mix right and for Ryan to get forward, and he’s not somebody you associate with goals, but for him to get forward and get a goal from inside the box, that’s a big plus for a midfield player.
“What you could see is that he is not used to scoring many goals because he didn’t know where to run! But he certainly enjoyed it.”
