GRAEME MURTY believes the partnership of Alfredo Morelos and Jason Cummings has a future with both men on the scoresheet in yesterday’s 6-1 win at Ayr United.

It was the first time the duo have started together, and while Murty believes it still needs some work, he didn’t rule out playing them as a pair again in the future.

Speaking to RangersTV, Murty said: “It is in its infancy and it is a start. I just wanted to see if it would work and if they would complement one another, and I thought at times they made the same runs as they are a similar type of player.

“But, we showed we have got people who can score goals, and if we can get both of them understanding one another, and we can get a better understanding with them, then it is something I wouldn’t be afraid to do again.”

Murty also paid tribute to the huge traveling support at Somerset Park yesterday, and singled out one supporter in particular.

“It was incredible,” he added. “Given the distances they have to go, and given the conditions today, I thought that support was of the very, very highest order.

“And, I do have to say, if you are the guy who was standing opposite me with the “naked bear” vest on all the way through the game, you are absolutely hardcore!

“That was insane looking across at you there. I was freezing and I’ve got on everything I own on, and you had a vest on.

“That is just a measure of football fans and the way that they want to go and support their team, and I am really, really pleased actually that we have sent them home with a smile on their face as it would have been easy to lose belief, and easy to actually question ourselves.

“But, we showed real, good character and a real good quality, and obviously we scored some really good goals.”
