PEDRO CAIXINHA’S team to face Kilmarnock will come of little surprise to anyone as two academy players make their competitive first-team debuts.
The Gers boss named his team a day early, revealing he has been forced to make six changes to his side which drew with Motherwell on Saturday after his squad was rocked by injury.
The Light Blues entire backline changes from that which started the weekend’s game as the Portuguese hands first starts to David Bates and Myles Beerman. Bates signed permanently from Raith Rovers in January after a successful loan period while Beerman arrived from Manchester City’s youth set-up in the summer. Bates is 20-years-old and will play centre-half while Beerman turned 18-years-old in March and will start at left-back.
The youngsters will be joined at the back by James Tavernier who returns from the one game suspension that kept him out against the Steelmen. Bates is partnered at centre-back by Danny Wilson, who has recovered from injury in time for the trip to Rugby Park.
There are changes in midfield too as Andy Halliday starts his first game since February 24. Jason Holt and Emerson Hyndman keep their spots and Barrie McKay moves back into a midfield four.
Up front Martyn Waghorn and the weekend’s goalscorer Joe Garner start. Waghorn is still Rangers top goalscorer with 15 for the season while Garner’s strike took him to eight for the season.
On the bench, there is a place for 18 year-old Aidan Wilson for the first time. He is joined by Jak Alnwick, Joe Dodoo, Michael O’Halloran, Josh Windass, Kenny Miller and Jon Toral.
