ALLY McCOIST paid tribute to Sone Aluko after his hat-trick killed off St Johnstone as Rangers romped to a 4-0 final-day win in Perth.
Lee McCulloch had put the Light Blues 1-0 up at the interval with a fantastic opener but it was after the break that Gers really moved into cruise control.
Aluko stole the show with his first career treble to take his personal goals tally to 12 in just 23 appearances since signing for the Ibrox side.
And McCoist admitted after the Nigerian international has been one of his best signings after making a huge impact since putting pen to paper last November.
He joked: “I had Sone down for 13 goals this season actually. In all seriousness though, he has given us a great return.
“The wee fella’s hat-trick was absolutely first class. He has been wonderful all season for us and he gets into dangerous areas and takes people on.
“He’s very quick and he can get free kicks but his goals today were superb. We’ve been singing his praises all year and deservedly so.
“Sone has been a breath of fresh air and in what has been a horrendous season in terms of the club’s history, we’ve had quite a few shining lights and he has been one of them.”
McCoist was delighted to round off what has been a difficult campaign with such a handsome win and was particularly happy for McCulloch after his strike broke the deadlock.
He added: “It was a heck of a strike for Lee and I was happy for him because he had a wee snap shot a couple of minutes before that he never quite caught.
“He got a bit of stick from the home fans for that but when he scored he met it perfectly and it was a wonder strike. You’ll struggle to find a better goal all season.
“The players had a totally understandable reaction to going into administration but we have finished the campaign very well.
“With the loss of 10 points, it was always going to have an effect and it did. We lost one or two games we shouldn’t have and I’m not making an excuse for that.
“They’ve bounced back from that. There was a reason for our dip but in terms of playing for each other and the support lately, what a job they’ve done. You could feel the passion.”
