“I NEVER had any ‘Rangers’ performances out there.” was the verdict from Steven Gerrard after his side were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by St Johnstone at Ibrox today.

The Light Blues couldn’t break down the stubborn Saints at Ibrox, with boss Gerrard none too happy with what he saw from his men.

“I never had any leaders,” he continued, “and I never had anyone who wanted to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and really win a football match.

“We had an international number nine who craves chances and craves service, and the service into him was horrible.

“We never got any decent crosses in and we never worked any decent combinations – everything we have done all week and everything we have worked on in our game plan – and across the board I never saw any of it today.

“Credit to them – their game plan has worked and ours hasn’t. They could have went away with more than they went away with.

“I think their players will be going away thinking ‘I’m a good as the Rangers players and I can play for Rangers no problem.’

“I’m searching for positives but I think I could probably only praise Wes [Foderingham] for helping us get a point as it could have been worse than it was out there.

“Besides that, I am struggling to find positives on it so I am very disappointed.”

Gerrard gave an insight into what was said post-match in the dressing room, adding: “My job is to tell people straight and honest, and sometimes that hurts, but my job is to do that.

“I did it in a respectful way and we will see what kind of reaction we get. I seem to be doing it quite a bit at Ibrox recently, and that tells me the performances that were there at the beginning of the season – I think a few people are getting comfortable in the dressing room so I hope this doesn’t become a record as I am sick of playing it.”

Gers now have to lift themselves for Wednesday night and the visit of Kilmarnock in their Scottish Cup replay.

On that, the manager said: “I am hoping that I have other people available that are not available today and I am hoping I can make changes for Wednesday, and I am hoping I see a huge improvement on the level of performance.

“That’s just not Rangers across the board. I thought Glen Kamara had a decent debut and I actually felt sorry for him as there wasn’t much quality around him.

“We were waiting for Ryan Kent to take four on today and create magic, but you can’t wait for other people to do it for you in a Rangers team – you have got to take responsibility yourself and I never saw the real Rangers today so I am hugely frustrated.”
