DEFENDER Declan John gave the following reaction to this afternoon’s 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock.
He said: “It was a big game for us today coming off the back of a good performance against Celtic – a game that we should have won. It’s obviously a tough one to take today.
“I think on the pitch, perhaps we were working too hard at times and trying to force things. I think with the way we play, we need to be more patient on the ball and I think today, we didn’t do that.
“We need to get the fans on our side and play football the way we know we can. I don’t think we did that today.”
Asked if they performed in a similar vain to the Celtic match when chasing the game, he continued: “It was the same thing. I think the last 20 to 30 minutes of the game today we were pushing them back, looking for that equaliser, but it was the same as the Celtic game where we were trying to force things.
“I think we just need to be a bit more patient and see where that takes us.”
On Kilmarnock, he added: “I think a lot of teams that come to Ibrox know the football that we play, and I think they are obviously going to sit back and defend, which Kilmarnock did today, and to be fair, they did it quite well.
“But we have to be a lot more patient on the ball and wait for that opening for us to score.”
And, on the news he has been handed a call-up to the Wales squad, John added: “It’s been a long time coming – maybe three or four years since the last time I was in the camp. It’s nice to get called up and hopefully I can go out there and do well.
“I think the first thing I said when I came to Rangers is that it’s a massive club, and it was going to put me on that platform to play games and hopefully get back into the international fold which I have done.”
