LEE WALLACE says that if there is a point to be proven in this Sunday’s League Cup match then it’s only to themselves.

The Rangers captain spoke to the Rangers Official Podcast exclusively this week as the Light Blues continued their preparations for the League Cup semi final against Celtic at Hampden – which you can listen to in full HERE.

The Gers full back was in a philosophical mood as he reflected on the last match between the sides, sharing his view that the players want to prove a point to themselves and others.

He said: “I think that if there’s points to prove then it’s certainly just to ourselves, to our teammates, to our manager and our own families and fans.

“That’s our main focus. If there are points to prove then I think that we have the confidence and belief in ourselves that we can go there and win that game.

“We of course know the intensity and the competitive nature of the fixture, the fact that they are flying high, playing European football at this stage and a high level of European opponent.

“It’s well documented that their performance against Man City caught the whole of British football and obviously they have dropped points on the back of that game.

“Everybody knows that, we are aware of that and I think that on the day it just comes down to what we do and how we are preparing.

“We’ve started off a good week of training and we’ll continue that, resting on our day off and we’ll prepare as we always do and go into this game looking forward to it.”

The Gers captain is looking forward to the match and says that he and his teammates enjoy the challenge of going head to head with Celtic in what he describes as the best way to showcase your talent.

Wallace continued: “I’ve said in previous games when we are playing this fixture that there is no better place to go and showcase your talent. There’ll not be any nervousness from us, there’ll be no fear.

“We go in there with no doubts over our preparation and no doubts as an individual for how we’ve prepared. We’ll go in there, enjoy it and show what we can do.

“I think we’ll be looking to keep that momentum and this fixture in particular if we manage to play well, send the fans home happy and get the right result and get ourselves into a Cup final then the momentum will certainly be carrying on.”
