ONE of Carlos Pena or Eduardo Herrera will feature in the Rangers squad tonight after both travelled with the team to Luxembourg.
The duo trained last night ahead of the clash with Progrès Niderkorn at the Josy Barthel Stadium, with Caixinha set to make the call on which makes his final squad of 18 for the 6.45pm UK-time kick-off.
Speaking to RangersTV, the gaffer explained: “We have brought 20 players. We will always bring three goalkeepers in case something happens with one of the goalkeepers, and regarding to the outfield positions, we will always bring one extra player again, with regards to the same situation.
“One of them, Herrera or Pena will be out. I just need to have my final analysis to come to that conclusion and pass it to the player. They are a still a level below the others, but they did well in our match at the weekend.
“They received an hour against Raith Rovers, but it is not enough and it is totally different. Their vacation period was totally different too – three times what we received. So the preparation phase is three times less, so we need to wait a little bit more on them, be patient, and get them integrated in the team, in the group, and that is one of the reasons why we brought them over.
“We haven’t had the time, for example, to get the team together in one hotel, so why not bring them? It is also important for us to get the relations and bonds in the team for them to get to know each other better.”
The Gers will be backed by thousands of loyal supporters in the Grand Duchy this evening, with their presence already noticeable throughout the city.
It is greatly appreciated by Caixinha, who hopes tonight’s foreign excursion will be the first of many.
Speaking to RangersTV.tv, he explained: “For sure, and we want to give them more travels like that, to give them a longer one after this and we want to keep going.
“They need to understand the support they are giving us is really, really helping us and it is working like an extra player and an extra motivation.
“We will do everything which is reachable to us and is possible for us to do in order for us to get to the group stage. That is our goal, that is our target, and that is the way we need to have vision regarding to tomorrow’s match and having that mission to accomplish that we need to do everything to get there.”
