WE look at some of the memorable moments that have happened on this day in the remarkable history of Rangers.
Today we cast our memories back to a fantastic draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford, an 8:0 romp over Valletta from ’83 and a 3:0 win over Partick Thistle from ’63.
Rangers produced a fantastic defensive display at one of the toughest venues in world football in 2010 to get off to a sensational start in the Champions League against Manchester United.
The match ended goalless, but it could have been so different if the Portuguese referee had been on top of his game as he could have awarded Rangers a penalty 18 minutes from time when Kirk Broadfoot was clearly fouled by Chris Smalling.
Nevertheless, there were heroic performances throughout the team – most notably Stevie Naismith, Davie Weir, Madjid Bougherra and Sasa Papac. You can read a full match report here and watch the whole match on RangersTV here.
Rangers romped to an 8:0 win over Valletta FC in the Maltese sun in 1983. Dave McPherson was an unlikely hero, scoring four goals and the other goals came through Craig Paterson, John McDonald and a double from Robert Prytz.
“Forrest Heads For Top Of The Tree!” was the headline in 1963 for a 3:0 win over Partick Thistle in 1963. 18 year old goal machine Jim Forrest bagged a hat-trick in the league match away from home in front of 35,000 fans.
