2008 – The club took part in its fourth European Final, against former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat‘s Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester.

A goal in 72 minutes from Igor Denisov broke Rangers hearts and Konstantin Zyrianov rubbed salt into the wounds with a second in the fourth minute of injury time.

1934 – Eric Caldow was born on this day in Cumnock in 1934 and his association with Rangers began just fourteen years later. Only a few men can lay claim to having played in a truly great Rangers side but Eric Caldow is a rare breed – he played in two.

The brilliant full back, who was equally at home on either side, made his debut in 1953 at the age of 19 in the company of players such as Woodburn, Sammy Cox and Waddell, and ended his Ibrox days in 1966 alongside Greig, Henderson and McKinnon.
