BRANDON BARKER is enjoying the hard work in Dubai that will culminate in Saturday’s match as the Gers prepare for the start of the second half of the season.
Barker is looking forward to Saturday’s friendly match with Lokomotiv Tashkent here in the UAE and he sees it as the perfect opportunity to impress with Steven Gerrard revealing his players will get 45 minutes each.
Speaking about the match to RangersTV, he said: “Definitely! It’s more to get the cobwebs off really and get 45 minutes in the tank and it will be good for the boys.
“We’ve all had a week off but it has been a really hard camp so far and we have still got another few days to go.
“I am biting at the bit to get some games and I am trying to show what I can do in training and hopefully I will get an opportunity soon.”
A real highlight for Barker in his Ibrox spell so far will undoubtedly be his starts in the Europa League double-header with Porto.
Gers were outstanding to draw away in Estadio O’Dragao before defeating the Portuguese giants at Ibrox a fortnight later – and being a part of both occasions is something Barker is very proud of.
He continued: “Both of them were very historic and the boys put in real shifts in both games. We showed we can go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the competition and I think that puts Rangers in good stead around Europe and we are looking to do more of that.”
Barker also spoke about his love of playing for “a massive club”, adding: “When you have a bad game, people start to talk, but that’s football. When you play for a big club you always want to say that you have played for a big club and I am enjoying being able to do that.
“This is a massive club and I am just loving life here.”
