DAVID BATES is currently enjoying his first ever trip to the USA and the Rangers defender was blown away by the sports facilities at the IMG Academy.

Bates travelled to the States after an impressive man of the match performance against Celtic at the end of 2017, and the 21-year-old was in good spirits when he was interviewed by RangersTV at the club’s world-class Bradenton training base.

The squad is now in Orlando preparing for tonight’s Florida Cup game against Atletico Mineiro, but before the players moved on Bates spoke fondly of his time at the IMG’s incredible 500 acre campus.

He said: “It’s been really good to be fair. The training complex is unbelievable and you can see the facilities they have got.

“We have had a couple of double sessions in the gym and the training has been good.

The gaffer has been putting his own stamp on the team and how he wants us to play and how he wants us to defend.

“The sessions in the afternoon have been individual so he’s been working on defenders specifically and then the attackers as well.

“I don’t know how many pitched they have got here, they’ve got an endless amount of pitches.

“There are so many buildings and everything is brand new. We got a tour of the place and the NFL side of it is crazy. The changing rooms are mad to be honest but it’s been brilliant.

“Obviously I’m looking forward to the games as well. The Orlando City Stadium is brand new I think as well so that will be good.”

While at the Academy the squad was split up with the players staying in villas on the IMG grounds.

Bates was pleased with the housemates he shared accommodation with, adding: “I’m in a room with Danny [Wilson] and there is a room with Liam Kelly and Ross [McCrorie].

“Niko and Hods have their own rooms so we have been on the couches at night watching the NFL and the ice hockey. Niko’s in charge of the remote!”
