JAMES TAVERNIER believes both sides playing the bulk of today’s 2-0 win over Motherwell suited Rangers, and he was thrilled with both the manner of the performance and the result.

Tavernier could only look on as Michael O’Halloran was dismissed for Gers before Well’s Scott McDonald followed him up the tunnel a short while afterwards, and in a roundabout way, Tavernier reckons the additional space that created on the park was ideal for the Light Blues.

He told RangersTV.tv: “We are delighted with the result and the performance from the boys. going down to 10 men at the start before it levelled out, I thought we controlled the whole game and it was a really good result for us.

“With their man getting sent off, it probably worked in our favour. With less men on the park we worked the ball really well, and even when we were 10 versus 11, it was still the same. I was very impressed with all the boys today – the sub too – and we got a really good performance out of it.”

Tavernier also discussed goalscorers Kenny Miller and Emerson Hyndman, and was mightily impressed with the contribution of both.

He continued: “It was great. Jon and Emerson have come in and done really well. They have fitted in well too, an Emerson got ‘Man of the Match’ and deserves all the credit for that, as well as getting a goal out of it.

“It was a good performance from the whole squad.”

“Kenny a great role model. Every day he comes in and always gives 110 per cent. Even with a two-yard tap-in he was there in the right place – he doesn’t like us bringing up his age but at 37 he can easily go until he’s 40. He’s that good.”

And, looking ahead to Wednesday’s trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts, Tavernier agreed with boss Mark Warburton’s assessment of Gers having “unfinished business” in the Capital after a disappointing 2-0 loss there earlier in the season.

He added: “We definitely want to set things straight when we go there. We were very disappointed with how we approached the game and how we dealt with the game. But, it’d different now and we stand a good chance.
