A RANGERS Legends side will jet out to Berlin tomorrow to compete in the prestigious AOK Traditionmasters competition.
Played annually at the Max-Schmelling-Halle in the German Capital, Gers have been drawn in Group B alongside local outfits Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin, with both home sides set to be backed by thousands of fans.
Rangers, unsurprisingly, will have a number of supporters in attendance too for what is always a massively popular event in Berlin, with over 8000 fans of all clubs set to turn out.
Six teams in total compete in the five-a-side event, with Group A made up of Borussia Monchengladbach, 1860 Munich and Schalke, before the top two in each group progress through to the semi-finals.
A third-place penalty shootout then takes place before the final crowns the winner of the tournament. Matches last 20 minutes (10 minutes each way) with a three-minute half-time break.
Rangers will be led by manager for the day John Brown, and at his disposal is a very talented squad.
From the ‘Nine in a Row’ era, Gers have their Greatest Ever Goalkeeper Andy Goram, striker Gordon Durie as well as Charlie Miller and Derek Ferguson.
From Dick Advocaat’s side, the legendary Jorg Albertz and Michael Mols are sure to entertain, while from Alex McLeish’s era, Nacho Novo, Alex Rae and Marvin Andrews provide quality in attack, midfield and defence.
And from more recent times, Lee McCulloch provides versatility across the pitch.
Last year’s tournament was won by a Jorg Albertz-inspired Gladbach, but this year the German hero has switched allegiances to Gers and is sure to be a key weapon at John Brown’s disposal.
The team of legends will be joined in Berlin by RangersTV, with full highlights of the event to come next week. In addition, we’ll be covering it all across our social media channels, so stay tuned!
