KYLE LAFFERTY was delighted to get on the scoresheet as the Gers dominated Hamilton this afternoon.
Goals from Ryan Jack, Jermain Defoe, Scott Arfield, a penalty from James Tavernier and a fifth from the big Northern Irishman gave the Light Blues all three points.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game, Lafferty said: “I’ve been desperate for a goal to be honest. I was happy to get on to the pitch and get a goal and it gives my confidence a bit of a boost.”
“The manager told me to go on and try to get myself a goal. I think he knows that I’ve been desperate to get a goal and I’ve been unlucky with a few chances.
“Today I maybe should have got a few more, but I’m happy with the one that I got.”
The Gers made it ten goals from two matches this week following on from the drubbing of Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup midweek and Lafferty was impressed with the overall performance of the team.
He continued: “I think it was a good team performance, I think that we were patient. It’s a difficult place coming here but I think that we played well.
“We played especially well in the first half, where we had a lot of patience and we took our chances well to go four-nil up.”
The Northern Irish striker climbed off the bench for the Gers today and he said that he knows he needs to keep working hard to force himself into the starting eleven.
He said: “I just need to keep working hard in training, that is first and foremost. I need to work hard and try to get some more game time and obviously a few more goals.”
Jermain Defoe grabbed high fourth goal for the Gers, in eight appearances today and Lafferty had high prase for the Englishman.
“He’s scoring goals and that’s why we brought him here. He’s a goalscorer and that’s what we need. Alfredo (Morelos) does exceptional work off the ball as well.
“Jermain has been a goalscorer all of his career and that’s why he is playing for Glasgow Rangers.
“I don’t think you can ever stop learning, especially with someone like Jermain coming in as he’s played and scored at the top level all of his career and for England.
“With someone of his standard here, I’ll try and pick up different parts of his game.”
