NIKOLA Katic was glued to the side of new signing Borna Barišić in his first training session at the Hummel Training Centre and it is safe to say the Croatian has his smile on his face about being joined by his countryman.
The left-back joined Rangers on a four-year-deal on Tuesday from NK Osijek and Katic believes the 25-year-old will be a great addition both for himself and the team. He joined up with his new team for afternoon training yesterday.
Barišić impressed across the Gers two legs against Osijek in the Europa League and Katic is tipping him to be an early success like himself at Ibrox.
Speaking to the media Katic said: “Borna is a really great guy and most importantly he is a really great player.
“I am really happy I get one more friend here and also you will see he will play really well, he is very humble and I think he can do a really good job here in Glasgow.
“It is nice here, I have had a very good welcome since I came here, the fans, the gaffer, the coaches and my teammates have been really good to me.
“Everyone has really helped me and I am really happy I have become part of this club.”
Katic has popped up with three goals so far for the Gers over pre-season and the early qualifying rounds of the Europa League.
The centre-half netted against Bury, Wigan and NK Osijek but when asked about his goal scoring record he brushed it aside and said he wasn’t focussing on hitting the target this season.
He explained: “I think the most important thing is that the team scores goals, it is not about the individual so I am really happy when I score but the important thing is that we score every game.
“It is great at the moment because every Thursday you are playing against European teams, it is a lot of games and you can only take it game by game.”
Katic has slotted in seamlessly alongside fellow summer signing Connor Goldson in the heart of defence and says the former Premier League man has hugely helped him settle in to British football.
“Connor is a great guy with a lot of experience and helped me when I started playing with him.
“It is much easier for me when I play with him because he talks a lot, brings a lot to the game and is a good footballer.”
