JORDAN Jones says Rangers quality showed as they brushed aside Ligue 1 Marseille at Ibrox with a four goal win.
Daniel Candeias struck twice before Connor Goldson and Jermain Defoe added to the tally in the second half.
It was Jones’ second start of the week after he made his competitive debut for the Gers against St Joseph’s in the Europa League and the 24-year-old is determined to keep his place.
Speaking to RangersTV he said: “It was a very good win, I know it was only a friendly but I think it was a good test for us but we passed with flying colours.
“I think we had to set the tempo early on and I think out of possession we were very good and then in possession I think our quality showed so we had a good afternoon.
“I think we were very good on the ball and I think we took care of the ball well. The main thing at half-time was to keep up the level that we were at and I think they came back out and did that so it was a really good afternoon for the full squad.
“The squad is massive, there is a lot of competition for places and there is a lot of hunger in the squad.
“I think if you get the shirt you need to keep hold of it and if you don’t have it then everyone is fighting to get it off you which can only be good for the club.
“You’d have to ask the gaffer if he thinks I’ve done enough to play on Thursday. I just try to do what I can on the pitch and I was pleased today, I thought I worked really hard and I showed bits of quality.”
Jones has played in two completely different front threes over the past seven days as he continues to settle into life in Glasgow.
The Northern Ireland international admits he had to adapt to playing with Alfredo Morelos against Marseille after Jermain Defoe started centrally in Gibraltar.
“It was good playing with Alfredo; they are two different players to be fair. I think Jermain stays more between the sticks and Alfredo sort of goes where he wants but it was a good afternoon and I enjoyed it.
“It has been brilliant here so far, I have loved every minute. It has been really hard work in pre-season and we are still in pre-season now so I have no doubt the hard work will continue. All the boys have been spot on with me and th fans have been brilliant so all positive.”
