ALLAN McGregor and Steven Davis can be “role models, icons and people to look up to” for the club’s younger players – according to Ross Wilson.
The duo recently agreed new contracts with the club, keeping them here until the summer of 2021, and Wilson believes their influence to be so, so important.
He told RangersTV: “That is a key point. The influence of the two players on the pitch, first and foremost, has been excellent – there is no question of that, and ultimately, that’s the biggest fundamental reason why we have decided to extend the contracts at this moment in this moment in time.
“Steven Davis is someone I have known personally for over five years now, and I can see up-close with Allan McGregor as well that the two guys set a clear example every day to our younger players.
“We have a lot of younger players in the club pushing to be a part of the first-team going forward, and for them to have role models, icons and people to look up to like Steven and Allan, can only be good for their development and genuinely, when you see the two guys and how they go about their business every day, they are exceptional.”
Wilson, while delighted with the backroom staff he has found at the Hummel Training Centre, will now look to build and grow those departments even more, continuing: “We have a very strong team here – the foundations are strong and we have a really open-minded group of staff who are looking to push forward all the time and help us get Rangers to where we all want it to be.
“When I spoke to the staff in my first few days here, I made it clear that, as well as the existing staff developing, we are looking to build our teams and have some new people join us.
“That process will start medically in January where we will have some new resource join that team.
“From a scouting perspective, we have started speaking to some people who will join us in the New Year as well as we want to grow our scouting footprint and grow the number of people who are working for us there.
“That will always continue for us – whether it be in scouting, medical or the Academy – we will always look to grow the quality of people we have got here to build upon the already existing staff we have.”
