ALLAN MCGREGOR could not hide his excitement today after he secured his moved back to Rangers by signing a two-year contract.

In an exclusive interview with RangersTV in the home dressing room at Ibrox he spoke about his love for the club and desire to win more silverware – but he is also aware that he will face a battle for a place in Steven Gerrard’s starting eleven.

With Wes Foderingham a consistent performer between the posts in 2017/18 and Jak Alnwick making eight appearances in the same campaign, McGregor knows there will be stiff competition for the number one slot.

However, he is excited at the prospect of working with both goalkeepers and the younger shotstoppers at the club such as Liam Kelly and Robby McCrorie.

Allan said: “Of course – I’ve heard a lot about the young boys coming through.

Obviously you keep tabs on what’s going on and Wes and Jak when they have been playing have done really well.

“It will be a tough battle for me and I’m not coming here and thinking I’m just going to go straight into the team.

“As every player does they need to prove themselves day in day out in training and then it’s up to the gaffer from there.”

McGregor is Gerrard’s second signing as Rangers manager following the arrival of former Falkirk, Huddersfield Town and Burnley star Scott Arfield on Monday.

Allan believes the midfielder will be a great addition to the squad.

He added: “He’s played at a high level now for the last five years down at Burnley.

“So hopefully he brings pace, excitement, quality – that is what we need as well. I think he’ll bring all those attributes.”
