LEE WALLACE was delighted to net his first goal since March in today’s emphatic 3-0 Premiership victory over Kilmarnock at Ibrox.

The skipper opened the scoring for his side after just 15 minutes when he latched on to Josh Windass’ terrific through pass before slotting the ball perfectly past Jamie MacDonald at the keeper’s near post.

It was the perfect start to a game the Light Blues dominated from start to finish and Lee spoke to RangersTV after the final whistle.

He said: “It’s always a bonus when I score. We know that last season I managed to get nine goals and that of course was quite rare, quite unique, and it was a real bonus for me.

“It always comes secondary for me, but it’s nice when it comes along.

“Josh obviously did well in the build-up and I’ve managed to put it away in the bottom left.

“Usually at that angle I go for the keeper’s legs – I think I’ve got three or four from that in recent years and I know Jamie MacDonald so we had a wee laugh after the game.

“He said my big size tens put him off! But thankfully it went in and we could keep the momentum going in the half off the back of that goal.

“It was more enjoyable the fact we went on to win the game quite comfortably.”

Rangers have now moved into second place in the SPFL Premiership following today’s victory, so it was a good day all round for Mark Warburton’s men, including Wallace who was thrilled with the overall display.

He added: “It was very pleasing. Obviously in contrast to Wednesday when we were disappointed, it was a bad two points dropped for us, but today was one that we wanted to try and turn things around for ourselves and turn things around for our supporters and send them home happy.

“I think we’ve managed to do that today, it was a really enjoyable afternoon and we are now into second place.

“So while we don’t want to get carried away, we know that today was the benchmark for the level of performance that we want to try to aspire to every week.

“In the first five minutes we really let Kilmarnock know that we were ‘at it’ today and I think we went on to continue that within the first half.

“Second half it tailed off a wee bit, but it was a really controlled, professional performance. It was a really enjoyable afternoon.”
