RICHARD Gough will captain Rangers Legends when they walk out against Liverpool Legends on October 12 and said he would use any excuse to play on the Ibrox turf again.

The nine-in-a-row legend will walk out alongside Steven Gerrard, who will be Liverpool’s skipper and admits he hasn’t kicked a ball since 2013 when he played against a Manchester United side for the Gers.

Despite his lack of football Gough thinks the Rangers team have a good chance against a Liverpool side including Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia and Patrik Berger.

Speaking to RangersTV he said: “I am looking forward to it a lot, when I was asked I thought I haven’t played since we played Manchester United here.

“We got a good result that day, we beat them 4-0 but that was about four or five years ago now. We played AC Milan here and we beat them too, 1-0, so I am looking forward to this one.

“Looking at the Liverpool team list it looks like a really good team and a young team so it will be a challenge for us.

“I don’t play much football anymore, I keep fit and do a few triathlons now and again but I haven’t kicked a ball for four or five years now.

“I maybe need to get myself up to the Hummel Training Centre and have a kick about with the academy kids.

“I think it’ll be a good game and a competitive game on the day, Clint Hill has just stopped playing and Carlos Cuellar. They will all be in pretty good shape.

“I think the goalkeeper might be a busy man on the day, they have some really good players who have just finished their career and it should be good for the support.

“I miss playing at Ibrox but once your playing days are over you always miss it because it’s the best part of your career.

“I am looking forward to getting on the field again here and I’ll use any excuse to play here again, I just hope I can keep doing it for a bit longer.”
