DEFENDER Connor Goldson felt every player stepped up tonight as an Alfredo Morelos’ injury time winner saw Rangers progress to the group stages of the Europa League.

Ibrox erupted as Morelos headed home a Jordan Jones cross in the dying stages of the game to send the Gers into the group stages for the second year in a row.

Speaking to RangersTV after the match, Goldson said: “I’m over the moon. It is the first of two big jobs done so we have got 48 hours to prepare for the next one.

“But what a night at Ibrox, I have just said to some of the new boys welcome to Rangers because these are the nights that you come here for.

“It’s massive, I said this last year that all the lads that have come here want to play Europa League football and I think that is a massive selling point for this football club so the fact that we can get there for a second year in a row it does everything for the profile of the club and for the profile of us as players.

“There’s nothing better, I think these European nights and Old Firm games are the reason why you come here to play in ties like that.

“As a player for Rangers you have to step up in ties like that and I think to a man today we were brilliant and overall we definitely deserved the win.”

The defender was delighted to keep another clean sheet, he added: “I think they are an organised side.

“They are a good side, they have good individual players and I think they are strong defensively.

“We had a good few chances and I think they had probably two. We had a good few in the first 20 minutes and started really well but at the end I think we just ground them down.

“There been a few games recently, obviously the St Mirren one as well, it’s hard to break teams down at the minute but we are coming away with victories.

“At the same time we are keeping clean sheets at the other end which means you only have to score one.”

The 26-year-old is looking forward to Sunday’s Old Firm derby, he added: “We’ve got 48 hours to prepare and so do they so there’s no excuses but we both go in on nine points and I think both teams are raring to go so we are looking forward to it.

“We have got a positive atmosphere after tonight and hopefully we can go and get another three points.”
