RANGERS have produced some quality in front of goal this season both domestically and in Europe and voting for the 2019 Goal of the Season sponsored by Glasgow Private Hire is now open.
Below we have the cream of the crop that made it to the vote for the season’s most popular strike at the Player of the Year Awards in April sponsored by GGK Contracts Scotland Ltd. Read through them all then cast your vote for your favourite.
RYAN KENT v Dundee
15 September 2018 – Ibrox Stadium
Ryan’s first Rangers goal was a special one which gave fans a taste for his flair. The Liverpool loanee picked up a lovely lay off from Scott Arfield on the edge of the box to cushion the ball with his first touch. It took the ball across his body, wrong footed the Dundee defence and allowed him the angle to stroke the ball beyond the goalkeeper with this right instep.
SCOTT ARFIELD v Villarreal
20 September 2018 – Estadio de la Cerámica
A superbly well worked team goal saw Scott fire Rangers back into the game in Group G. James Tavernier made the goal with a powerful central run as he pushed the Villarreal defence aside before jumping a tackle in the box, which could have been penalised. He touched it to Daniel Candeias on the by-line and the Portuguese cut back for Scott to fire the ball into the roof of the net.
KYLE LAFFERTY v Villarreal
20 September 2018 – Estadio de la Cerámica
Glenn Middleton made this goal as his perfectly weighted ball put Borna Barisic in down the left channel. The Croatian crossed with his first touch to find the Northern Irishman racing in and on the move he stroked the ball across goal and into the far corner.
ALFREDO MORELOS v Rapid Vienna
4 October 2018 – Ibrox Stadium
In the dying moments of the game Daniel Candeias nicked the ball off the Vienna defence in the centre circle before producing arguably the assist of the season for the Colombian. His sweet back heel sent Alfredo chasing down the keeper and he slid the ball underneath him one-on-one.
ALFREDO MORELOS V Hearts
7 October 2018 – Ibrox Stadium
Daniel Candeias picked the pocket of the Hearts’ defender to square the ball into the striker. He let the ball run into his feet and flicked the ball over the stranded keeper with a cute back heel.
ANDY HALLIDAY V Dundee
09 December 2018 – Dens Park
Andy surprised everyone as he stepped up to take this free-kick, including the Dundee wall. Left-footed he curled this set piece around them and watched it nestle in the top corner.
RYAN JACK v Celtic
29 December 2018 – Ibrox Stadium
Ryan’s first goal for Rangers and an iconic moment for the midfielder. It was all made after brilliant work down the left from Ryan Kent, which turned Celtic inside out. The winger cut back to the edge of the box from the by-line and his namesake side footed the ball through the legs of Scott Brown and beyond the goalkeeper.
ALFREDO MORELOS v Aberdeen
06 February 2019 – Pittodrie Stadium
A clever finish from the Gers top scorer after he controlled a pass in from Ryan Kent with his right. The 22-year-old then sweetly curled the ball around an Aberdeen defender with a sublime side-footed finish into the bottom corner.
SCOTT ARFIELD v Hamilton
24 February 2019 – Hope CBD Stadium
The Canadian received the ball on the edge of the area before lifting it way beyond the reach of Hamilton’s keeper as he rifled the ball into the roof of the net from 25 yards out.
ALFREDO MORELOS v Kilmarnock
16 March 2019 – Ibrox Stadium
Alfredo made this one all himself as he rolled the Kilmarnock defender with a back heel around him on the edge of the area. He raced in on goal and fired the ball into the back of the net in a flash.
