RANGERS will travel south to take on Sheffield Wednesday in a friendly match on Sunday, July 30th at Hillsborough – kick off 3pm.
The two sides met at the same venue in 2013 as Gers geared up for their League One campaign, and they will travel south to take on Carlos Carvahal’s impressive outfit once again a week before the Scottish Premiership season kicks off.
Wednesday have featured in the Championship play-offs in the last two seasons, and will be hoping to go one step further this time around by making it all the way to the Premier League.
The Yorkshire club’s squad features Scotland internationals Steven Fletcher, Jordan Rhodes, Barry Bannan and George Boyd as well as former foes Gary Hooper and Glenn Loovens.
Prior to the 2013 game, the last time Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday met was for Ian Durrant’s testimonial at Ibrox on April 28 1998 when the legendary playmaker ended his 14-year love affair with the club.
On that occasion goals from Benito Carbone and Paolo di Canio gave the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead but a neat finish from Durrant on 50 minutes followed by a trademark Jorg Albertz thunderbolt from distance meant the game finished level.
Ticket information for the game will be confirmed to supporters in due course.
