RANGERS boss Steven Gerrard loved getting the chance to play at Ibrox this afternoon as he led out Liverpool in the Legends match.
Gerrard said he was never going to turn down the opportunity to get his boots on again as he played 75 minutes for his former club before pulling on the famous Light Blue jersey for the final 10 minutes.
The Reds ran out 3-2 winners on the afternoon, with Luis Garcia, Patrik Berger and Emile Heskey getting on the scoresheet.
“The game went well there was a lot of goals and a lot of entertainment and I managed to get a cameo for Rangers as well, so hopefully the supporters go away very happy. I am certainly satisfied and I loved today.
“I miss playing, I miss being a player and I miss being in the dressing room, I miss the comradery and I miss competing so to get the chance to do it again in front of a packed Ibrox on a wonderful surface and in an iconic stadium I was never turning that down. Obviously the chance to put the famous blue shirt on for a cameo as well was a nice touch.”
“I am never going to change the way I play, when I was a player I liked to try and entertain the fans and try to provide service for the front players and that is the way I tried to play today.
“I ran out of steam a little bit at the end I was a bit tired but I done ok, I maybe should have scored, I’m a bit disappointed with that.”
A cheer went up from the 30,000 fans inside Ibrox as Gerrard emerged from the tunnel on the 80th minute to play the final 10 minutes for Rangers.
He added: “It was fantastic, I think they booed me in a red shirt and then they got behind me when I came on in blue.
“It was a nice touch obviously with my connection here now at Rangers I’m very proud to be the manager and I think it is only right for them to see me in a blue shirt.
“The support and the backing the give me on a weekly basis that was the reason why I wanted to give a little cameo for the blue side of it as well.
“It was nice to go into the Rangers dressing room and meet a lot of ex-players that I have never met before but in terms of spending time with my ex-teammates and heroes of mine they are days that I will never forget, I love it.”
