MANAGER Steven Gerrard has discussed what he reckons new signings Umar Sadiq and Lassana Coulibaly will bring to his Rangers squad.
Striker Sadiq and midfielder Coulibaly this week put pen-to-paper on season-long loan deals, with the manager believing both will add plenty of new attributes to his team.
Firstly on Sadiq, who arrives from AS Roma, Gerrard explained: “First and foremost he’s a talent and I think he is a player with huge potential. He is looking for the next stage to take his career to the next level now.
“I think he has done fantastically well in Holland and he is one of many boys that are at football clubs around the world and they find it very hard for that breakthrough.
“Instead of staying at that club and suffering and not playing games, I think the likes of Rangers can go and grab these boys and give them the stage and platform to perform on.
“Now it is over to Umar to come over here and keep learning, keep growing and try and force his way into the team.
And on Coulibably, who joins from French side Angers, Gerrard added: “He is a destroyer type midfielder and I think he is very different to what we have got here.
“He has played at the top level in France, I watched him in numerous games over 90 minutes but the game I was really impressed with him was against PSG against world class players.
“He broke play up and he kept the ball really simple and did an excellent job for the team when I watched him.
“He is one I have had my eye on for a while and once we get him up to speed and fit and physically ready, after a long summer off, he will be superb.
“Today straight away in training he looked sharp and he did exactly what I thought he was going to do, he broke play up, he was aggressive, he snaps into tackles, he is physically very strong and he will add a bit of power in the engine for us.”
Meanwhile, the manager believes his transfer business is reaching its conclusion, with him continuing: “We are nearly there, there is no number on it, we will be there when we’re there and when I see that the team and squad is good enough to compete against the best sides domestically and teams we are going to come up against in the Europa.
“We feel we have already improved things a lot but we still feel there are some pieces missing and we will try and get them in. We still want a central defender.”
