ARCHIE KNOX has backed Steven Gerrard to “bring a lot” to Rangers when he takes over the manager’s hot-seat in the coming weeks.
Knox has seen what it takes to be successful in football, having been assistant manager to both Walter Smith and Sir Alex Ferguson among others in his long career in the game.
Now, Knox is excited to see what Gerrard can do at Rangers given the fantastic career the former Liverpool and England captain enjoyed.
He told RangersTV: “He’s a lad who has had a fantastic career, and has had a little bit of experience in terms of taking the younger teams at Liverpool.
“But he has a wealth of experience in terms of international football and big games in the Champions League and winning the Champions League, and he is someone who will bring a lot to Rangers, I’m sure he will.”
Knox, in his spell as Smith’s assistant at Everton, saw Gerrard at close quarters in many a Merseyside derby, and in those matches, he saw him display qualities which could make him ideally suited to the manager’s gig at Ibrox.
He continued: “Everyone knows what he was like as a player. He was really competitive and a real influence in the Liverpool team all the time.
“He was the one who could get them going if they were having a rough patch, and his play could do that.
“I’m sure he will take that into his managerial role as well.”
Knox has also come across McAllister on many occasions too, and on him, he added: “He’s an experienced guy too, and it is great that Rangers have acquired that. We know exactly what these lads are capable of, and now they need to turn that into being capable on a managerial level.
“But I’m sure they will, and they will certainly do well.”
