STEVEN GERRARD was thrilled with today’s performance and win against Livingston – but called on his men to find this level more consistently.
The Ibrox gaffer watched on as goals from Ryan Jack, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos sealed a comfortable win at an especially tough away venue.
Speaking to RangersTV, he explained: “I am very pleased with the performance today. I thought individually we were at it and I thought we matched Livingston in every department.
“Their set-pieces we defended comfortably, we matched them in the battle with first-contact and second balls and we controlled the game.
“We created all the best chances and I think we thoroughly deserved our win.
“Every time people have asked questions of this team, they have gone out and proved they are a good team.
“The disappointing thing from Wednesday was we beat ourselves – we gifted them goals and in any football in any league in the world if you gift chances and gift goals to teams, the job becomes very hard.
“But today we were perfect defensively and that helps us to win football matches as we know we have quality players who can go and hurt the opposition.
“It is a good day for us, but we need to build on it and we need to try and find consistency. If we want to be successful moving forward, we have to find consistency – it is no good taking three or four steps forward and then one or two back.
“We have the quality in this team to go on a run of games and that will be the challenge.
“If we are being fussy at half time, we could say we needed to take more chances as we had two or three really, really strong chances to put the game away in the first half but credit to the boys as they stayed with it in the second half and they kept battling and kept fighting with Livingston and more chances presented themselves.
“We were ruthless second half and that i what I like. Nobody could have complained if we had won this game even more comfortably than 3-0.”
Alfredo Morelos grabbed a goal at the end after seeing a few other chances go by for him – but the fact he never let is head go down delighted Gerrard.
The manager continued: “Persistence. It’s a word we use all the time and that is what I love about Alfredo – he never gives up, he never stops and he is desperate and hungry to score.
“That is the reason why he has scored a big number of goals for us.”
Daniel Candeias too had a terrific afternoon, with Gerrard saying of him:”He was excellent. I think when Daniel really commits to his game and really plays full throttle with that energy and that intensity, he is a hell of a little player and he was excellent for us today – but so was everyone else.
“You can go through the whole team and you will always find if we are all at it in every single department we normally win football matches.”
