RANGERS have been drawn against Progrès Niederkorn from Luxembourg in the first qualifying round of the Europa League and the dates for both legs have now been confirmed.
After almost six years on since Gers’ last competitive European outing, continental football returns to Ibrox this season with the home leg against Niederkorn being played on Thursday, June 29 at 7.45pm.
The Stade Josy Barthel (National Stadium of Luxembourg) will then host the second leg on Tuesday, July 4 with a kick-off time still to be confirmed. UEFA have intimated that the kick-off will be prior to 1800hrs (CET) and this will be confirmed by Friday at the latest.
It’s been a long and, at times, painful journey back to playing in a UEFA competition and following yesterday’s draw the Light Blues can now look forward to facing a side that came sixth in the Luxembourg National Division last season.
Olivier Ciancanelli’s squad has one familiar face to Scottish football, with former Hearts and Kilmarnock defender Ismael Bouzid in their ranks, a player who had a trial at Rangers in June 2014.
Niederkorn have won the Luxembourg national title three times, but have not won any silverware since 1981. They have played in European competition twelve times in total, losing ten times and drawing twice.
Should Rangers progress to the second qualifying round of the Europa League they will face AEL Limassol from Cyprus or St Joseph’s from Gibraltar.
Season ticket holders can purchase their seats from tomorrow Wednesday 21 June until Saturday 24 June. Thereafter general sale will commence online and Ticket Hotline from Sunday 25 June. Ticket prices are £15 adults, £10 concessions and £5 juniors.
