WE look back at some of the remarkable events from this day in Rangers’ history.
Today, a superb Champions League away draw with Vfb Stuttgart, a home victory over the same opposition and another European victory over Danish outfit Lyngby.
This day in 2009 saw Rangers return home from Stuttgart with a superb 1-1 draw. After Pavel Pogrebniak put the home side in front, Madjid Bougherra scored a stunning leveler 13 minutes from time to secure an excellent point against the Germans.
Six years earlier, Rangers were entertaining the same opposition at Ibrox in what was another dramatic match. After Kevin Kuranyi stunned Ibrox with a goal before half time, the Light Blues fought back in superb fashion, leveling through Christian Nerlinger before Peter Lovenkrands netted a wonderful winner in the closing stages to send the famous old ground into raptures.
Rangers’ Champions League adventure in the 1992/93 season kicked-off this day in 1992 with a 2-0 win over Lyngby at Ibrox. Mark Hateley and Peter Huistra scored in a 2-0 win before Ian Durrant made sure in the away leg with a 1-0 victory that set Walter Smith’s side up for a second round match with Leeds United.
