WE look at some of the memorable moments that have happened on this day in the remarkable history of Rangers Football Club.
2011 – Having just been relegated from the Premier League, Ian Holloway’s side looked set to be a stern test for the Light Blues, but two first half goals from Steven Davis – who earlier in the day had signed a new five-year deal – proved to be enough for Ally McCoist’s side to bring victory back to Ibrox.
With the SPL season starting just four days later at home to Hearts, it looked to be ideal preparation, though the Jambos were to escape Ibrox with a point before Rangers went down 1-0 to Malmo in the Champions League a week later.
2006 – Rangers made the journey to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town and returned with a 2-0 victory.
Goals from Peter Lovenkrands and Nacho Novo were enough to delight the thousands of Gers supporters who had made the long journey to East Anglia for the match which also saw Stefan Klos make his comeback following a long injury lay-off.
1990 – Mark Hateley signed for Rangers from AS Monaco for the first of his two spells. The big striker initially partnered Mo Johnston, but it was his later teamwork with Ally McCoist up front which won most praise.
In all, the man nicknamed ‘Attila’ for his no-holds barred playing style scored 115 goals in 222 games for initially Graeme Souness’ side.
