WE look at some of the memorable moments that have happened on this day in the remarkable history of Rangers Football Club.
2005 – Rangers signed 21 year old Argentinian forward Federico Nieto from Almagro on loan. Nieto scored three times during his spell at the club, once in the league against Dunfermline and twice against Clyde in the League Cup.
The Gers boss had already secured the services of Ian Murray, Brahim Hemdani and Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan ahead of the 2005/06 campaign.
Speaking to the club website on the day that he signed, Nieto said: “This is so exciting for me. It’s spectacular, you know.
“I had just suffered relegation with Almagro and was feeling very down and suddenly everything changed. When you play for a club like Rangers all you have to do is concentrate on your playing.
“Everything has happened so quickly. I knew nothing about it until my agent told me a deal had been done. I am delighted.”
1914 – Jimmy Galt was sold to Everton after eight years with Rangers. Born in Ayrshire in 1885 he joined Rangers in January 1906 and made 182 League appearances for the club, helping them win three consecutive League titles prior to his move to Everton.
He won a championship medal South of the border at the end of his first season a Goodison but saw his career wrecked by the First World War and returned to Scotland in 1920 to sign for Third Lanark.
